Friday 29th November saw the inaugural British Cycling Eastern Region Volunteer Awards presentation with each of the cycling disciplines inviting riders, officials and fans to nominate a volunteer to receive nonrecognition. The BMX winner was Becky Gridley from Braintree – the citation read out by the BC regional chair, Julie Watts, is below.
Becky is selfless in her approach to volunteering in a wide number of roles in the world of BMX in the Eastern Region. At club level she spends hours coordinating all the volunteers for the Club weekly race series and ensures all roles are covered for the benefit of the riders. She has single handedly coordinated all the club merchandise and provided a fantastic system for the members to be able to represent and promote the club. At regional level she has shared the regional secretary role and taken minutes at meetings as well as distributing documents to the committee. He biggest role though was to coordinate all the 163 riders goodie bags for the British championships and provided admin support for the regions riders at sign on, ensuring no one missed the registration deadline regardless of the club they were from. She has two sons who race and is always on hand at the races across the country to support and cheer on all the riders and is never shy of offering help at all levels.
